Cricket in India

"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Doesn't Work Hard"

Hi, friends today i would like to share about sports in india, mostly in india people love cricket, Cricket is the very popular sport in our country. Field hockey is the most successful sport for India at Olympics in which India has won eight Olympic gold medals. Kabaddi is the most popular indigenous sport in the country. Traditional sports also have same craze in people, particularly in the youth of south india. Some places in Tamilnadu, "bull fights" are called "jallikattu" and in Karnataka "buffelo race" are called "kambala" both are very famous and held every year. In kerala state an ancient sport is called "snake boat race" popularly known as "vallam kali", this sport not only popular in india, but also in the international boat races. These are some of the examples about indian sports, we have no of traditional sports in different states of our country, but in our country why people madly follow cricket, let us discuss detailed in this essay, thank u friends.prepare well.

Topic: It’s time for Indians to look beyond Cricket:-
Cricket is the one game which is most watched and most played in India. This is partly due to the influence of almost regular relay of matches, commercial innovation in Cricket, change in cricketing format from low scoring to high scoring matches and introduction of  T20 and IPL, and infrastructure and prospect in Cricket. If sports are to be given ranking, all top 10 slots would go to Cricket in India. No other game is anywhere near to it in terms of following, statistics, participation, viewership, and revenue generation except in extraordinary events like Olympics, FIFA etc.
Cricket Industry:-
The impetus for such growth has resulted in Cricket becoming a big industry. It has its own infrastructure and organisation with limited formal intervention from Govt as it now does not need govt fund to survive. The infrastructure across the length and breadth of country, close-knit national and International Cricketing organisations and India's influence in ICC owing to large viewership and resulting revenue from sponsor ships has made Cricket a profit-making business. Cricket gives its players name, fame and money. So, parents find bright prospect in it despite a short career. Apart from cricket, good income from commercial also drag new blood towards Cricket. To get to district, state and national levels, people spend good amount of money on training and other fees, which sustains these organisation and infrastructures.
Is Cricket replacing native games?

But the mass weight towards Cricket is having very bad impact on native games. With greater accessibility to TV and internet, people are now motivating their wards to take up Cricket. As many native sports neither have district/state or national championships, people have little incentive to pursue them. For the sports which have such championships, infrastructures are lacking. Inadequate funds are assigned to them. Some sports like shooting are so costly, that participants take them up at their own cost. As there is little incentive for native games compared to Cricket, the institutions are also not that efficient. But the institutions can improve provided they get enough encouragement in terms of viewership, which they don't get owing to almost regular cricket matches and viewers' involvement in them.
Intrinsic relationship of Culture and Sports:-

Sports are basically recreational display of skills associated to vocation of people. Kushti, Archery, Shooting, Swimming etc are good example of this hypothesis. Due to this, there are many sports which have cultural significance and territorial limits. Usually, a sport is famous in a region which can easily mingle with the culture of the region. In past, when battles were norm of the day, sword-fight used to be a sport. In tribal regions where hunting is/was the main occupation, Archery finds its way. In the area where Buddhism is practiced, Judo and Taekwondo are the sports. Similarly, in agrarian areas of Tamilnadu, Jallikattu (bull fighting) is popular sport. So, sports usually are supported and nurtured by the prevailing culture of a region. Looking beyond Cricket would encourage these native sports and in turn help preserve the local culture and diversity of the Country.
Disparity between the population and number of medals won in Olympics and Commonwealth games:-

The increasing apathy towards native sports by the "modernizing" population has resulted in India's poor performance in Olympics and Commonwealth games. The ratio of population and medals won in such competitions is really discouraging. This is because of lack of infrastructure, institutions and fund. Also, there is lack of proper and effective long and short-term policy for how to approach such competitions, has resulted in India's meager performance. Whereas other countries have proper institution and policy for selection, nurturing and training for young sportsmen, India provides ad-hoc fund for participating sportsmen which is of little use. The human resource must be identified at primary and secondary level for different sports and then nurtured for 15-20 years. The good news is India has adopted such long and short-term plan for future Olympics.
Cricket's effect on sports infrastructure:-

Cricket has effect on sports infrastructure too. As Cricket is the most viewed game, the investment in infrastructure goes primarily to Cricket. Due to vote-bank politics, funds first go to cricketing infrastructure, and the leftover goes to other sports’ infrastructure. One cannot find a proper court for a game as basic as Kabaddi. A fair distribution of fund to different sports is must for other sports to have their fair place.
Cricket's effect on common psyche:-

Cricket is no more just a game but has gone into the psyche of the people. Cricket is the only sport in India on which one finds dedicated commercials and even commodity products. This shows other sports in poor light and put them at disadvantageous position.
Betting and Spot-fixing:-

As Cricket is apple of most of Indian's eye, it is not free of vices. There has been reports of betting and spot-fixings. Some players have been having association with betting agents to earn money by unethical means. Players have also been suspended from the games due to such indulgences.
Institutional Corruption in Cricket:-

Corruption is no more limited to Players and betting agents. It has got roots in institutions also. Cricket Association office bearers have been found having hand in gloves with the betting cartels. Some office of Profit cases have also emerged.
IPL Scam and SC Verdict:-

Scams of IPL came to light recently which led then IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi to flee India and a few IPL franchises to be disbanded. In the light of the scam, SC constituted Lodha Committee to straighten BCCI and IPL. Lodha Committee has removed some top office-bearers of BCCI for their arbitraryness and non-complaince of Committee's advisory.
Cricket – A diplomatic tool?

Cricket not only has national impact but international impacts too. India and Pakistan have not been playing cricket for a few years owing to their territorial and political issues. Snapping cricket ties can be diplomatic tool as well as an escape from taking more stringent actions.
Conclusion:-

But, Cricket itself is not all bad. Other sports can take many lessons from Cricket. Cricket is the most innovative sport in India. Other sports can take a leaf out of it as how and what to innovate. The statistics of cricket is one such area where other sports can learn. The innovations like IPL can be implemented in other sports too. There are many experiments in Cricket like T20, IPL, change in formats etc.. which can be taken with proper modification to other sports. Other sports should not depend only on mega-events. They should carve their own space in society, they should create their own viewership with technology and innovation and they will have to be self-sustained and commercially competitive to compete with Cricket.
