Essay on Democracy

"As I would not be a slave, So I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy." - Abraham Lincoln

Hi friends, today I would like to share about Democracy, how long has our India been a democratic country, etc..Generally, Democracy is defined as a “State governed under a system of democracy”. It means control of an Organization or group by the majority of  its members. Our country is a democratic nation and it is the world's largest democracy and according to UN estimates, its population is expected to overtake China. In future India to become the world's most populous nation. Our India is a free country; vote from any place, specific seats are given out for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Parliament, in local body election a proportion of seats are given out for women candidates. India has different kinds of democracies at different levels of hierarchy. At National, State and many other levels, it is an indirect democracy. We elect our representatives and from then on they decide for us. So, India's democracy is dominantly Indirect democracy. For building better essay content we should follow yojana and kurukshetra, hindu editorial etc..these are helps to get great knowledge and maintain good flow of writing for a better essay, prepare well friends, thank you.

Topic: Democracy:
Democracy, a system of government where the state is ruled by its population mostly through elected representation, has a very long history. It was not an event that led to the formation of democratic forms of governments, rather it was continuous process, evolution of ideas and undying efforts by millions of people across the globe that led to a this system. Time and again we have seen in the history when absolute monarchy had to bow down its head in-front of a joint power of the people.
The question then arises that if democratic governments are so people centric, why were they not the default form of polity right from the beginning? The answer is very simple and also the topic of this writeup “sucessfull democracy is choice of wise, not mobocracy for fools”. To take a deep dive in this phrase, let us take a recap of history where it all started. It was the American revolution that led to the formation of the first ever democratic form of government in the late 18th century.
The American moral was high and the people were joyous for they have successfully overthrown the foreign rule and formed a society which in their sense was just, egalitarian and progressive. The idea was to be proven wrong in a very near future of  just 80 years, in the form of outbreak of American civil war. What lead to this civil was was that although the American people have formed a democratic government but they failed to make it successful for they were not wise enough to realize that for a successful democracy the playing ground has to be equal for everyone.
By outcasting the American blacks from a regular society they have at the very beginning laid foundation for the civil war. It was only later that the poeple of America become a little wiser and chose Abrahim Lincon, propagandist of abolishment of slavery, and laid to foundation of what we see today as one of the most successful Democracy. Once again we can see that our topic of discussion holds water.
The world is full of such examples where the success of democracy is seen to be directly proportional to the wisdom of the people of the state. One more such example is of the French revolution where the French after over-throwing the monarchy in 1789, went through a bloody and political overhaul multiple time in the next 90 years only to establish the France we see today, a true democratic nation. What led to a successful democracy there is also the wisdom of its people. Else in the hands of  half-baked Napolian, who claimed to be the King of the French democratic, the so called democracy could have never met its meaning.
Democracy when in hands of people without a broader vision for development of the nation, leads to unemployment, hunger, concentration of power, nepotism and other ills of the society. A foolish constitution can cast on people a very long time of sufferings. A fool who is not able to think beyond one’s own selfish needs, or one who framing policies keeping aside the interest of people and the nation as a whole can lead people of the country to a dark future.
The beauty of democracy is that the power lies n the hands of people in form of their vote. It is thus only the wisdom of people that can lead to a successful democracy a foolish vote casted based upon the selfish factors can result in the outcome that can highlight the evils of democracy.
The phrase, that the Successful democracy is for the wise, strengthen more when we see that even after the formation of democratic governments in some countries, some countries still have not adopted the the seemingly most just kind of governance. “Why is it so”, is the right question one may ask. The answer is that the people are yet to gain the wisdom, strength and the skills to foresee the benefits to be able to adopt this form of government.
The assertion gets its support from our country where our forefathers and the framers of the constitution studied different constitution to gain the wisdom of those who have already adopted the democratic form of government. Had they not been wise to do so and had they left the power undefined then our country could not have been on the path of greatness that it is today.
One may argue that what is great when we have poverty, hunger and unemployment. The answer is that every country has its own problems and the framework, to handle these problems, has been set and is only getting strengthened by the wise decision of the governments one after the other.
We are the citizens of a democratic country are getting wiser and are thus able to elevate our self from pity issues as caste, creed, colour, gender and religion. It is only our wisdom that can make the democracy that we have today a true successful democracy.
